Rooney was thenarrested in Virginia last month by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police (MWAA) for public intoxication. The 33-year-old, who plays for DC United in the States, paid a small fine and was released shortly after the incident. The incident report, obtained by Deadspin, reveals how the arresting officer was dispatched after receiving reports of a person trying to gain access though a secure door.I approached the individual and asked what happened, reads the report, and in his broken English he stated he went through the door because he thought it was a lift. The subject provided a United Kingdom passport and the individual was identified as Wayne Mark Rooney. The incident report then appears to corroborate Rooney’s story about the sleeping pills. Mr Rooney had a strong odor of alcoholic beverage about his person, slurred speech, and was unsteady on his feet, the report says. After promising to appear in court, the father-of-fourpaid a $25 (20) fine plus $91 costs. This is not the first incident involving Rooney and alcohol in recent years. In September 2017 he admitted drink-driving on a night out when he was caught driving a womans Volkswagen Beetle when nearly three times the legal limit. He was banned from driving for two years and ordered to carry out unpaid work in the community.
